Small Kitchen Remodel project in a Philadelphia kitchen

Engineered Quartz Tops for Philadelphia Kitchens

Quartz is the most-installed kitchen countertop in the country. The reason is simple. It looks like natural stone, it does not stain, and it does not need yearly sealing.

Showcase Remodels has installed quartz tops in row homes and condos across Center City, South Philly, Fishtown, and Mt. Airy since 2002. We do quartz tops as a stand-alone job and as part of full kitchen remodeling projects.

Every install starts with an in-home measurement and a slab showroom visit. Call 215-515-6484 to set up your free consultation.

What Engineered Quartz Is and How It Differs From Natural Stone

Engineered quartz is about 90 to 93 percent ground natural quartz mixed with resin binders and color pigments. The slab is pressed under vacuum and cured into a solid, non-porous surface.

Non-porous surface

Because the surface is non-porous, liquids cannot soak in. Wine, coffee, oil, and tomato sauce wipe right off. There is no sealer to apply each year, which is different from granite and marble.

Consistent color across slabs

Quartz comes in consistent colors slab to slab. If you fall in love with a sample, the slab you get will look just like it. Granite and marble are one-of-a-kind so every slab differs.

Quartz vs Granite

Granite handles direct heat from a hot pan better than quartz. Quartz resists stains better and does not need sealing. For most Philadelphia families, quartz is the easier daily-use surface.

Quartz vs Marble

Marble looks beautiful but it etches when acid hits it. Lemon juice, wine, and vinegar leave dull spots. Quartz patterns can mimic marble veining without the maintenance, which is why we install so much of it in Center City condos.

Our Quartz Countertop Installation Process Step by Step

A clean install starts long before the slab arrives. Here is what we do from first measure to final caulk.

We measure the existing layout, check the cabinet height with a level, and plan the demo. If the cabinets are not square or level, we shim them before the new top goes on.

You pick the slab in person at the fab shop. Choosing the slab yourself matters because patterns can vary inside a single batch. We mark out where the seams will land.

A templater scans the cabinets with a laser so the new top fits within a 1/16 inch tolerance. The fab shop then cuts the slabs on a CNC water jet, dropping sink, faucet, and cooktop cutouts at exact locations and profiling the edges in the same pass.

Two to four installers lift the slabs onto the cabinets. We glue down with silicone, set seams with tinted epoxy color-matched to the slab, and caulk the backsplash to the wall. Most clients have running water at the new sink by dinnertime.

Edge Profiles and Seam Placement on Philadelphia Kitchen Tops

Edge profile and seam placement are the two design details most homeowners overlook. They make a big difference in how the finished kitchen looks.

Eased Edge

A slight rounded corner. The most common edge in modern kitchens. Cheapest to fabricate and easy to clean.

Mitered Edge

Two pieces of stone joined at 45 degrees to make the top look thicker, usually 2 to 4 inches. Common on islands with a waterfall side.

Seam Placement

Quartz slabs come in standard sizes around 120 by 55 inches. Most kitchen tops over 10 feet need a seam. We place seams over a dishwasher or a cabinet support, never in the middle of a long run, and never across a sink cutout. A good seam should be felt with your fingernail but barely seen across the room.

Why Philadelphia Homeowners Pick Quartz Over Other Counters

Quartz outsells granite, marble, and butcher block in nearly every Philadelphia kitchen remodel we do. The reasons are practical, not just style.

Low maintenance, high durability

No annual sealing, no etching from lemon juice or wine, and a surface that holds up to daily prep for decades. For Philly families with kids, that combination is hard to beat.

From the in-home measure to the final install is usually seven to fourteen days. The actual install day takes four to eight hours for most kitchens. We give you a written schedule before we order the slab.

Quartz is harder than granite but it can chip at unsupported edges and around sink cutouts if hit hard. We add plywood under the slab where needed and use color-matched epoxy on seams so the surface stays solid for decades.

Yes, we recommend it for any kitchen with veining or pattern. Sample chips do not show the full slab. We bring you to a partner slab yard in the Philadelphia area so you can mark the slab and approve the cut layout before fabrication. Call 215-515-6484 to book your slab visit.
